Museum piece! Big, seating BULUL statue, 90-100 years old!
OverviewAuthentic, tribally used pieces of the Ifugao of such age are extremely scarce and valuable these days. This is an absolutely fantastic statue! Retrieved from the private collection of Mr Noël Balenga. He refers to his collection as "a museum" and he has sadly indicated that he no longer wants to sell any of it. I still have a few of his brilliant pieces, of which this is the absolute pinnacle.
A big and heavy statue with a wonderful wood patina and traces of use and aging. Bulul is the god of rice of the Ifugao tribe and he plays a prominent role in their culture. Pieces like these are usually passed over from generation to generation. This statue comes from the village Hungduan. The photos give a good impression of the statues. More photos are available on request.
