Maternity statue, BACONGO tribe, D.R. Congo, approx. 1975
OverviewExpressive maternity statue of the Congolese BACONGO statue, especially full of character. A mother is carrying her child on her arm. A funny detail is the identical hairdo on both figures. A striking resemblance between mother and child... The mother has eyes made of glass. Secret ingredients, designed for causing protection and prosperity are particularly present around the neck of mother and child. Remainders of white Pemba clay and blue pigments are visible. The blue represents the magical. The statue has a warm, somewhat spotty wood colour, and with slight traces of use and aging, it is in good condition.
