Ancient, intensively used AZANDE statue, D.R. Congo, 1920-40

Rare, ancient, authentic, intensively tribally used fertility statue of the Congolese AZANDE tribe. The Azande lived spread over various countries. This statue comes from the D.R. Congo. Despite investigations of various connoisseurs, a comparable statue was never found. A depiction of the vulva on the front side of the body. It is likely that feathers were put in the braided Rotan band around the waist. Fabulous use and aging patina and an overall good state. The statue lacks limbs, the face is endearingly simplistic. A flat head and conically shaped foot. A hidden opportunity for the collector of rare, authentically used tribal objects!
