Old PUNAMHAN, ritual sacrificial box, FUGAO, Philippines, approx. 1950
OverviewAuthentic, tribally used object, this old ritual sacrificial box named PUNAMHAN of the Ifugao from the island Luzon in the Philippines. What is special about this hand-carved box is that plenty of ingredients from previous sacrificial ceremonies are still present. On the lid, bits of the border have been eaten away by rats. This is because sometimes rice is sacrificed, which attracts rats at night... Boxes like these were used by a mombaki, a sort of shaman. Evident traces of use and aging. Look carefully at the photos to see its condition.
