Tribal, heavy statue of rice god BULUL, Ifugao, approx. 1980
OverviewBig, heavy, hardwood statue of the rice god BULUL from the Ifugao tribe from the Philippines. It plays an important role in daily life of the Ifugao tribe community in the north of the Philippines. Nearly every family has one or more of these statues. Bulul is frequently used in rituals. Old artefacts of the Ifugao are rare and usually very expensive. This statue has been directly obtained from a family from Banaue. It is currently in the state in which it was acquired, not cleaned. Black vertical stripes run over the statue. Because of good contacts within the Ifugao community I have been able to buy a couple of beautiful objects. This is one of them. An affordable statue for a lover of primitive, authentic tribal objects!
