Older maternity statue of the LUBA, DR Congo, ca 1970

Beautifully carved decorative statue, this maternity statue of the Congolese LUBA. A mother sitting on a stool has a child on each knee and one on her back as well. Beautifully and both serene and proud face, well-groomed and beautifully shaped body. In between her knees lays a hyena. Some shrinkage cracks are visible. Please take a good look at the photos! On the back are traces of oil that suggest that the statue has been anointed.
