Nkangi Kitidu Klitsu, Bacongo cross, DR Congo
OverviewThese Bacongo crosses, called Nkangi Kitidu Klitsu, were made under the influence of the missionaries who came to Congo since the 15th century. The name NKANGI KIDITU KLISTU means Christ the protector. Only the leaders of the Mfufu were engaged in such a cross. At the death of a chief, an NKangi Kitidu was handed over to his successor in a special ceremony. They have also been used in judicial proceedings. The suspect had to touch the crucifix and swear to speak the truth. It was also used in the healing of the sick; the crucifix was then placed on the patient to heal him or her. In addition, it also had a spiritual purpose, namely to come into contact with the son of the creator of the earth, as they saw it.
The cross is made of brass. Please take a good look at the photos for the patina and the condition, which is good.
