Overview

Beautiful piece of primitive currency from the Fon tribe in Benin. A bit funny as well, because a piece of industrial metal pipe is part of it. On both sides, tubes with a clapper attached in it. All clappers are still in it!!
Objects like these were used as currency, or for trading. Naturally, there is some corrosion because of its age. Yet it is in good condition.

Length: approx. 30 cm
Weight: 516 grams
Origin: Benin
Date: 3rd quarter 20th century
Provenance: from Peter Beaujean's private collection (ex-gallery Tounkara, Rotterdam)
