Rare, old tribal NKISI voodoo statue, BACONGO, DR Congo, 1920-50
OverviewVery rare and very old authentic tribal intensively used NKISI voodoo statue of the Bacongo from the DR Congo.
A statue with a history. It has probably been used for some time as a Nkisi protection statue in the personal atmosphere. After that, it may have been debunked and used as a voodoo image. The patina is stunningly beautiful! and present in thick layers. The patina consists of kaolin (old kaolin, not the one with mica in it that has been used for the last 50 years), blessed oil and tikula powder. That oil will smell like a combination of camphor and amber. The statue also smells. For clarity. The statue is made of wood and covered by the patina. The rings on the wrists, upper arm and neck are made of bronze. The figurine is in good condition. You can actually go to a museum that way because you rarely find them that way and certainly not for this price! ( put an extra picture of an example of a similar statue being inside the belly of a statue)
