Old face mask of the IBO, Nigeria, mid 20th century
OverviewCharacterful old face mask of the IBO. Harmonious whole, in appearance somewhat different from the usual Ibo masks. Contrasting with a dark hairdo and dark mouth, nose, eyes and ears next to a face that was once white. Striking is the serrated snake-like shape that runs from the nose to the top of the head. Here and there a hole due to insects, but the mask is now free of insects. Chip at the bottom inside and a smaller one at the top inside. Clearly a mask with age in a reasonably good condition.
