Ritual wooden star plate, IFUGAO, Luzon, Philippines, late 20th century
OverviewWooden ritual plate with a star-shaped edge and boar head and tail. The wild boar plays a role in many rituals of the Ifugao. On various occasions such as a wedding but also the opening of a business, a boar or pig is slaughtered. There are special teams of people who slaughter such a boar in front of the door on the street and process it inside all night into all kinds of dishes. At the party itself, it is then eaten by often large numbers of invited guests. I have witnessed it myself several times. This is a medium sized plated, utensil for various rituals. Good condition, see the photos.
