Overview

Quite large OFIKA statue, also called the hanging man, of the Mbole from the DR Congo. In the culture of Mbole, so-called "ofika" statue are more than usual. They represent hanged men, criminals convicted by the Lilwa, an association responsible for maintaining social order. The pose that such objects take is typical. Often cramped, bent, with arms leaning on knees. The heart-shaped face is covered in red and white, mud and kaolin respectively. In this case, the kaolin is visible. On top of the head, the headdress consists of a crescent moon. Beautifully stylized statue for which I had a custom-made stand made that is included. The statue is in good condition!
