Old tribal Panzi mask, SUKU/YAKA, DR Congo, 1940-50
OverviewA truly beautiful mask, this large tribally used mask of the Suku/Yaka from the South Kivu region in the DR Congo. In that area the Suku and Yaka live together which is beautifully reflected in this mask where the style of both is visible. Beautifully carved face with a hyena on top. Around the bottom an imposing collar of natural fibers that is in very good condition. The mask must be dated 1940-50 and has obvious traces of use and age. Stand is included.
