TOP! Kikashi initiation mask, Eastern Luba, DR Congo, ca 1900
OverviewA museum mask!! Initiation mask, native name, Kikashi from the Eastern Luba tribe of the DR Congo. A mask of great class! Tribal intensively used and with a strong provenance. It is a female mask but it was also danced by men. It has been used in many initiation rituals and is correct in every way. On the back, which can be called rare, is a stick on a string. That was put in the mouth while dancing so that the mask stayed on the head and did not fly over it. Also intensively used, especially if you look at it under a magnifying glass. An asset to any museum! See the photos for the condition. More photos are available on request. You can visit my exhibition space in Axel, Zeeuws Vlaanderen by appointment.
