NAMASKARA MUDRA, greeting statue, Nepal, ca 1960
OverviewPartly weathered beauty, that's how I would like to characterize this image. Even more beautiful in real! An older Namaskara Mudra greeting image, also called a putali there. Guardian statues and greeting statues (called Namaskara Mudra) can be found all over Nepal. Near bridges, next to the largest tree in a village, in houses, etc. The ravages of time in combination with the openwork shape lift this image above the average. The face stands out extra and is carved with great care, up to and including the cheekbones and the jaws are not just "cut" straight. Varied patina also appropriate to use and age. See the pictures!
