Large ceremonial bowl with lid, YORUBA, Nigeria, mid 20th century
OverviewRare! because this bowl is complete with the lid. Large in size, this ceremonial bowl with a face on the edge of the lid and in the center the shape of a comb, not incised but lying on it. The bowl itself is divided into several compartments with a round compartment in the middle. Traces of use and age are evident and appropriate. The side of the bowl shows 4 figures, two of which are holding a bowl. Furthermore, two "handles" with which the bowl can be lifted. The arm of one figure is missing. The bowl has been used intensively and is in reasonable condition. The holes of insects are not inhabited. The object is free from insects!
