Mask of the KWELE, Gabon, 1970-80
OverviewFairly large ornate mask of the Kwele. A friendly looking mask with abstract horns on both sides. Eyes incidentally like a heart shape. On both sides the horn has a face cut into it. The mask has a varied warm medium brown color. It was once glued, but this was probably done immediately during the making because the patina continues naturally. See the photos for the condition, which is otherwise good except for the fracture line. Very nice as a decorative object!!
