Refinedly carved bowl-bearer, YORUBA, Nigeria, ca 1970

Striking statue, this bowl-bearer of the Yoruba. A devotional statue. Refined carved face with headdress and a lot of detail in the rest of the statue. Beautifully stylized .. see for example the relatively large head and the slightly backward neck, bracelets around the wrists and the detailed skirt. Eyes of white kaolin, which emphasizes the peaceful character. Deep brown shine. Good condition!
