Overview

Beautiful older bronze altar statue, this Caloa bird of the Toussian people. The Toussian people are an ethnic group mainly found in Burkina Faso, but also in Ghana, Ivory Coast and Mali. They are known for their agricultural practices, which rely heavily on rain-fed agriculture. The Toussian people have a rich cultural heritage, including unique music and dance traditions, and a distinctive art style with geometric designs. The Calao bird, also known as the African hornbill, is a species of bird found in sub-Saharan Africa, including the areas inhabited by the Toussian people. In Toussian culture, the Calao bird is considered a symbol of strength and power, and is often depicted in art and in traditional stories.
In this case, therefore, as a bronze altarpiece with a beautiful patina, appropriate to its use and age. Good condition! (slightly bluish photos due to brighter light despite clouds)
