Very old Hindu devotional object, Nepal, late 19th century
OverviewHindu devotional object with two Nandi bulls on the ends. Very old, intensively used object with a beautiful patina and obvious signs of wear. Originally there were wheels on it, like the chariots on which Nandi bulls, statues of wood, are placed during a procession. The square recess in the middle probably contains powder that was used to make a dot on the forehead, among other things. (Vermilion powder, ground saffron with kusumba flour, sindoor or kumkum). That is red brown in color, also as a paste, but after a long time it discolors to white as can be seen now. A late 19th century, intensively used object with a lot of soul! See the pictures.
