Older tribal Sherpa, Buddhist mask, Northern Nepal, mid 20th century
OverviewParticularly powerful mask, large and penetrating, crudely cut. Pigment remnants are still visible. Often masks in Nepal wear a mix of styles. This can best be described as Sherpa, Buddhist. More often you see a mix of Buddhist, Hindu and aninimistic. For a purely Buddhist mask, this mask is cut too amorphous. In any case, impressive in appearance.
