Overview

Rare and striking small mask, this jhakri/shaman mask. There is no clarity in the meaning. A shaman would use this when consulting someone who is ill and asking for help and healing. It shows a striking similarity to the African "maladie" masks of for example the Pende. Deformed facial features... crooked nose, mouth in a slightly different place, etc. Picasso was fascinated by this style during his travels through Africa and that is clearly visible looking at the style of his paintings. Mask is made of a hard wood and is in good condition. See the pictures!
