Very old used harp, NGBAKA, DR Congo, 1850-1900
OverviewVery beautiful and very old tribal utensil, this harp from the Ngbaka, dating from between 1850 and 1900. The base is made of wood, partly covered with the skin of a dik-dik (smallest antelope species). A copper plate on the front. A few sticks for tightening the string are newly made and can also be omitted. Especially a beautiful head, very strong! Convincing patina of use and age. I had a custom-made stand made for this beautiful object, which is of course included. An instrument but in its appearance also a statue!
Height from top of string part to bottom: approx. 66 cm
Length of the string section: approx. 47 cm
Total weight: 1519 grams
Origin: DR Congo.
Date: 1850-1900
