Very old hunting fetish, SONGYE, DR Congo, 1900-1920
OverviewStrong personal protection fetish of the Songye. It concerns a hunting fetish that belonged to a hunter of wild "bush pigs". Hence the tooth of a wild pig. The underside has a piece of skin from a thick thick, the smallest antelope species. On the belly a charge with a piece of natural fiber and a hand-forged metal nail. On top of the head there is another charge with a piece of wood sticking out. The statue is remarkably refined and has a beautiful and convincing varied patina appropriate to age and use. A statue in the old style, of course, given the age indication. I include a nice block with the statue on which it can be placed. (The price of 2250 euros at the bottom for which it was previously priced in a gallery)
Length: 16 cm, including block 24 cm
Weight of statue: 65 grams
Origin: DR Congo
Dating: 1900-1920
