Songye Kalundwe oracle basket, DR Congo, 1940-50. Rare complete oracle basket! The statue is a hunting fetish and has a lizard or snake strap and a charge on top. Furthermore, there is all kinds of things in it or hanging on it, a hippopotamus tooth, a shell, a toe of a kudu, a fin of a catfish, a starfish (the sea is 6-700 km away!), hooves, shell, bead, note .... The bag also shows abri beans, shells and a cone. Is sometimes filled with clay from the spot where the hunt has been good. Skin is visible on the inside of the woven basket at the bottom. A very strong tribally used object with many attributes that all have symbolism. See the pictures!
