Fetish statue of the IBO, Nigeria, ca 1960

Powerful appearance and a beautiful styling this fetish statue of the Ibo from Nigeria. Very powerful head with glass eyes, the mouth slightly protruding and a straight neck. The chest is slightly puffed and has an area for ingredients that give the statue its power. These are often plants, soil etc. that are put in by a nganga, a kind of shaman. That cavity is then covered with a piece of wood or with fabric and resin, for example. Here, remains of kaolin are visible. The posture is very special, round bent forward hanging with the feet at a point to the back. The patina is varied, here and there somewhat smooth, possibly from rubbing contact and in accordance with the age and use. The statue is placed on a foot. Special price!!
