Overview

Extremely rare and complete piece! An immediate masterpiece in the collection for the collector of ethnographic items!! Major village fetish of the Tetela (Songo). It was intended for the entire village and is a protection fetish against illness and for healing serious problems. The head is downright impressive and has a magical, rock-solid appearance! It's a real power fetish that predates commercialization. Large in size too, see below. The statue has two charges, one in the horn and one in the belly. The horn was used to poke the fire. The beads are made of glass paste. The bell around the neck is from a gourd. The patina is stunning. Among the very best pieces I ever had! The basket in which the statue stands is made of metal (tin) with a hand-woven piece of fabric around it. Rare good condition considering use and age!!
